After enjoying a week of vacation, our 110 students are back on campus and ready to learn! (In Honduras, the school year runs from February through November.)
People often ask why Family Life Missions invests so heavily in education. The answer is simple:
Because education changes generations.
In Catacamas, a rural community in the state of Olancho where our campus is located, far too many children face barriers that make continuing their education almost impossible.
- Many rural communities have no secondary school, leaving students with nowhere to continue after the 6th grade.
- “Free” public education isn’t truly free. Uniforms, textbooks, transportation, and other required expenses become overwhelming for families already struggling to meet basic needs.
As a result, many children leave school by age 12. In fact:
- More than 16,000 public schools lack adequate facilities, with many missing running water, electricity, or even desks.
- About half of third-grade students do not achieve basic reading and math proficiency.
- Only about 32% of students complete primary school without repeating a grade.
For many children in rural Honduras, the dream of an education ends too soon.
That’s why Por Los Niños Christian School (PLNCS) exists.
Today, PLNCS serves students from Pre-K through 10th grade, and we are adding one upper grade each year as we continue growing toward a complete secondary education.
But our mission goes beyond academics.
Our students receive instruction from Christian teachers in:
- Core academic subjects
- Bible
- Computer technology
- Art
- Music
- Recreation
Just as importantly, our school is a trauma-informed environment, recognizing that every child has unique experiences, incredible potential, and immeasurable value.
The majority of our students receive scholarship support. Each family is looked at individually, and tuition is based on a sliding scale according to their needs.
We believe children should not only excel academically—they should also grow spiritually, develop strong character, and become compassionate leaders who will impact their families and communities for Christ. That is why we use Christian curriculum and have daily bible classes and devotionals.
Our Parents’ School meets monthly and offers classes in the importance of emotions and communication, positive parenting, how to be a strong parent, growing up in the digital age, and more.
