Why Family Preservation?
When our ministry began in 1994, we cared for children in residential homes because we believed they had nowhere else to go. However, as we came to know each child's story, we discovered something that changed the direction of our ministry forever.
Most of the children were not true orphans.
They had parents, grandparents, or extended family members who loved them deeply. The question became, “Why can't their families care for them?” As we searched for answers, we explored family reunification, kinship care, and foster care. We found that, whenever it was safe and appropriate, children could thrive in loving family homes.
Digging deeper, we discovered that the greatest obstacle was rarely a lack of love.
It was poverty.
Many parents simply could not afford food, safe housing, school supplies, healthcare, or other basic necessities. Economic hardship—not the absence of family—was separating children from the people who loved them most.
Since 2016, this understanding has shaped everything we do. Rather than waiting until families are in crisis, we come alongside vulnerable families before separation becomes necessary, helping them build healthy, stable homes where children can flourish.
A Comprehensive Approach to Lasting Change
At Family Life Missions, we believe every child deserves the love, security, and belonging of a family.
Family preservation requires more than meeting immediate needs. Families need hope, healthy relationships, practical resources, and opportunities to become self-sufficient.
That's why Family Life Missions addresses the root causes of family separation through three core Family Preservation initiatives, supported by comprehensive care, parenting support, and strong partnerships with local churches.
Together, these ministries help families move from crisis to stability—and from survival to thriving.
At FLM, we strive to meet each child’s spiritual, emotional, intellectual, psychological, and social needs. Helping families stay together with the right tools and resources can give children and families a hand-up instead of a handout.

Safer Homes, Stronger Families
A safe, healthy home provides more than shelter—it creates security, dignity, and hope.
Through Building Dreams, Family Life Missions partners with Honduran churches, generous donors, and mission teams from churches across the United States to build new homes and complete critical home improvements for families living in unsafe or unstable conditions.
And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;

— Loving Others —
Making an impact without traveling
Not every church can send a mission team—but every church can help preserve families.
Through Loving Others, churches in the United States partner financially with Family Life Missions to provide critical home repairs for vulnerable families in Honduras.
Family Life Missions hires trusted local construction crews while nearby Honduran congregations serve alongside the families by providing volunteer labor, encouragement, and locally available building materials whenever possible.
This partnership creates lasting impact while strengthening local churches, supporting the Honduran economy, and allowing families to remain safely together in healthier homes.

inspiring hope entrepreneurship program
A safe home is only part of the solution. Families also need a reliable income to provide for themselves with dignity.
Through Inspiring Hope, families receive entrepreneurship training, one-on-one mentoring, and seed capital to launch small businesses based on their unique skills, passions, and abilities.
Working alongside our professional staff and business leaders in Catacamas, each family develops a practical business plan. Then, Family Life Missions provides ongoing coaching and encouragement as its business grows.
Many participating families have increased their monthly income by as much as 400 percent. As income grows, parents can purchase nutritious food, keep their children in school, improve their homes, and build a more secure future.
Businesses launched through Inspiring Hope include tortilla businesses, clothing sales, vegetable production, cleaning supply businesses, catering services, popsicle businesses, and many other family-owned enterprises.
Most importantly, families experience renewed dignity, confidence, and hope as they discover they can provide for their children while remaining connected to their local church and community.
